Tattoo Guns, Ink and Supplies

Tattoos

Tattooing is an art form as old as human civilization. It has been a method of signifying social standing, a means by which to identify prisoners, and a way to decorate the body. Over the millennia it has been both an accepted social practice and a highly maligned symbol of criminality. However, in recent decades tattooing has gained a much wider acceptance in cultures where it was formerly a subject of scorn.

At Bluedragontattoo.com, we believe that tattooing can be a legitimate art form. In the hands of a qualified artist, tattoo guns can produce designs as delicate as anything that can be done with a brush. We have designed our website to be used as an informational resource for those that want to discover the latest in today’s world of body art. We try our best to provide the most up-to-date information available, and strive to do so in as unbiased a manner as possible.

Evidence collected over the last few decades suggests that the tattoo has been around for at least the last 5000 years. Tools that many believe were used for applying ink to skin have been found that date to as far back as 30,000 years ago. These tools and methods of creating body art were relatively unchanged for thousands of years, until the invention of the tattoo gun in the early 19th century. This invention not only changed the methodology, but it also helped to spread tattoos all around the world.

Tattoo guns are the brush with which the artist paints his living canvas. Previous to their introduction, the process of tattooing was a long, painful drawn out affair. Ink was applied by repeated pokes with a sharp object, usually made from wood or bone. This process often took many days, if not weeks, to finish a piece of skin art. However, with the invention of the electric tattoo gun, the time it took to produce a quality tattoo was dramatically reduced.

Like a traditional artist with his paints, tattoo inks are the lifeblood of the tattoo world. Traditionally, tattoos were relatively limited in their use of color; being normally reduced to reds and blacks. Many people still prefer the look of a traditional design using traditional colors. For those that want a more vibrant design, today’s tattoo parlors can usually offer every color of the rainbow. From dark blues to bright yellows, brilliant colors are the usual hallmark of the modern tattoo. In addition to colors, there are also several types of specialty inks, including white ink and glow in the dark ink. These are most often used by those that want a truly unique piece of body art.

Tattoo supplies do include a great deal more than a gun and some ink. In most locations, there are a variety of Health Department regulations regarding how a tattoo parlor can be run. Sterilization equipment, medical supplies and a host of other items are all required by law. If you need to find more information about these items, or any other aspect of tattooing, like tattoo gun kits, please feel free to peruse our learning center.
